Ultimate Wrestle Mania Dream Card

Wow, it is tough to come up with a Ultimate Wrestle Mania Dream Card but we did it. This project became a co-created dream card with help from the guys at Wrestler Weekly and Smark to Death Podcast. I will link some more information for both groups down at the end of this.

Lets start with the original snubs before I had to rethink a few things. The two main guys left off the card are Wrestle Mania icons. These two guys even had an Icon vs Icon match at Wrestle Mania but yet, they were left in the dust — The Rock and Hulk Hogan did not find a way on this card becuase everyone only has one match (with the exception of one guy). You will also find who I think the likes of Hulk Hogan and the Rock should wrestle if they had made the card at the bottom but for now, lets just say they are the hosts of this magical and yet fictional event.

The idea behind this card is simple find the dream match of at least two individual wrestlers that would/could never happen. It comes with the understanding that anything is possible in wrestling. Wrestlers can wrestle well into their 50’s as the likes of Ric Flair and Undertaker and others have proven. With that we have been fortunate to witness a number of dream matches. Fortnuatley on this card we do have a few matches that could actually happen and they just may get you to the point of watering at the mouth.

Now from a bookers side, which consists of 720 Wrestling, Wrestler Weekly and Smark to Death, this would be the first ever Wrestle Mania that would become a two day event. These matches are too amazing to be contained to a one night only show.

For us, all of these matches would be some of the best anyone could ever witness. We truly believe that this is the Ultimate Wrestle Mania Dream Card! Get ready to dream.

Brock Lesnar vs Vader

Submitted by 720 Wrestling

In 1992 and up to 1994 Vader had some of his best work that took place in WCW. His matches against the likes of Sting and Cactus Jack stand out as some of his most memorable and vicious of his work. His stint in WCW is coming off his rise to glory and fame in New Japan Pro Wrestling where he became know as one the greatest super heavyweights of all-time. In WWE Vader had a great run to with a mouth piece eerily similar to his opponents, Jim Cornette. He is known for his power, stiff hits, athleticism and absolute destruction of his opponents. Does this sound like someone familiar?

This brings us to his opponent, Brock Lesnar. Lesnar will of course be accompanied by the one and only Paul Heyman, his mouth piece and ultimate hype man! Lenars recent run with the title is lasting a full year. He has only defended the title on PPV and yes he is not on a full-time schedule by any means but that doesn’t mean that his run hasn’t been dominant. Lesnars 2017 has been anything but lack luster as he continues to dominate everyone that steps into the ring with him.

While the two managers on the outside of the ring are sure to create a moment or two, the competitors inside bring out one of the stiffest WWE matches ever scene. They hit each other hard and don’t let up. The big moment comes once Vader kicks out of multiple F5’s but inevitably gives in to the destruction. Lesnar comes out on top.

Winner: Brock Lesnar

Eddie Guerrero vs Seth Rollins

Submitted by Smark to Death

Kyle from Smark to Death Podcast picked this one and honestly, it’s a brilliant matchup of styles.

Eddie Guerrero was one of best world champions to ever live and did it with a high flying, quick paced style that is emulated, but never duplicated. He lied, he cheated, and he stole his way into wins just like Seth Rollins has done during his time as the authority’s face of the company. Seth is one of the most dynamic young talents in WWE that uses high octane offense and has a pretty sweet frog splash himself.

In this matchup, Guerrero puts the younger Seth Rollins over in an amazing match that has the crowd mesmerized by the sheer athleticism both competitors display.

Winner: Seth Rollins

AJ Styles vs Shawn Michaels

Submitted by Smark to Death

This is the dream match everyone wants and I really wanted to talk about it. Shawn Michaels is one of the greatest in-ring performers of all time. Conveniently, the same can be said of AJ Styles although the mainstream fans of wrestling are just now beginning to realize this thanks to his current stint in WWE and his multi-championship reigns he has had thus far. This matchup would have a huge response from the crowd and dueling chants, naturally.

We pick Michaels to pick up the first win in what would start a trilogy of matches between two legends ending with AJ getting his win during the third match.

Winner: Shawn Michaels

CM Punk vs Stone Cold Steve Austin

Submitted by Smark to Death

Finally, our show closer and Kyle’s final pick.

Two massive icons with huge amounts of fan support and similar distaste for authority. CM Punk has an entire run nicknamed after him, the Summer of Punk. He held the championship for a long period of time and his mic work is some of the best the company ever saw (cue pipe bomb reference). The fans loved Punk and still want him back today.

Stone Cold Steve Austin, however, was the savior of the company during the Attitude Era. He came in beer swigging, boss hating, middle finger flying, and ready to kick ass every single night. He had the largest responses every week and even to this day, you hear “what” chants just like we hear CM Punk’s name chanted.

The build to this match would make it worthy of closing the show. Two mic wizards would cut incredible trash talking promos on each other leading to their early April main event bout at WrestleMania. Finally, CM Punk would close a WrestleMania and get the Main Event spot he so deserves. To end the night, Punk would put Austin to sleep with his GTS and would win his first and only main event match at ‘Mania. Straight edge wins over alcohol abuse. I promise, this message isn’t subliminal.

Winner: CM Punk

The New Day vs The Fabulous Freebirds

Submitted by Wrestler Weekly

A match between two trios would be off the charts! They both possess incredible charisma and talent. There is a strong bond in each group. The matchup I am most intrigued about is Terry Gordy vs Big E. Two incredible big men who can move around that ring like nobody’s business. Add in Kofi’s creativity and aerial moves matching up against the devious and effective Michael Hayes. Then you have the skills and brains of Xavier Woods and Buddy Roberts to really hammer this classic home.

The New Day have more than enough to give the Birds all they can handle but that mean streak of the boys from Badstreet is the ultimate difference. I picture the finish of this being the New Day hitting their finish on Hayes while Gordy causes the distraction. Buddy Roberts and the loaded headgear strike, spelling the end for the New Day. I feel that the New Day will go down as an all time great team and while they are great, the Birds might be the greatest trio in wrestling history.

Winner: Free Birds

Braun Strowman vs Andre The Giant

Submitted by Wrestler Weekly

A young Andre the Giant was not only impressive due to his size but also his agility. Andre was incredibly talented utilizing moves like flying dropkicks and tombstone piledrivers! It’s a shame that too many folks only remember an aging Giant well past his prime but Andre was an absolute superstar.

Braun Strowman may be having one of the most solid runs in recent memory. Outside of the Miz and AJ Styles, nobody has been as consistent as The Monster Among Men. Every appearance is a spectacle, breaking anything and anyone he chooses. I see this as a No Disqualification Match.

Andre and Braun would trade massive blows and impressive feats of strength and ability. Braun Strowman would eventually not only slam but powerslam Andre through God knows what. I give the edge to Braun Strowman due to his Devil May Care approach and his penchant for destruction.

Winner: Braun Strowman

Six Woman Elimination Match — Sasha Banks vs Charlotte Flair vs Trish Stratus vs Lita vs Chyna vs Asuka

Submitted by 720 Wrestling

Before I get started, we could easily have three different matches from these six women. What I would have in this case is Sasha Banks vs Trish Stratus-Charlotte Flair vs Lita-Chyna vs Asuka. All three of those matches would be absurdly incredible in my opinon. I chose the elimination match because it puts one woman on the top of the mountain.

First eliminated would be Lita and she would be pinned by Sasha Banks. This gives us five remaining. Four girls would gang up on Chyna to try and take her out but wouldn’t succeed at first. Chyna would barely survive and still get a lot of destruction in. As she barely survives she earns a pin by pinning Sasha Banks but is then hit by a gang of finishers from Asuka, Trish and Charlotte.

This brings us down to the final three.

Asuka, Trish and Charlotte end up having a match within a match seemingly as they push each other to the absolute edge. As everyone is tiring out and at the end of their respective roads Charlotte and Trish decide it is time to take out Asuka. They do successfully as Trish pins Asuka and it comes down Trish Stratus vs Charlotte Flair.

Charlotte and Trish trade blows and near falls for a number of minutes as both wrestlers have seemingly found a second and third wind. It comes down to a double punch where both women hit the mat hard. Charlotte comes to first and latches on to Trish for the figure four leg lock. Trish taps out and Charlotte wins.

Winner: Charlotte

AJ Styles vs Ric Flair

Submitted by Wrestler Weekly

AJ Styles becomes the only wrestler to get a second match on the Ultimate Dream Card and that must really be saying something.

Two of the greatest of all time. 1989 was the year Ric Flair had many classic matches including his battles with Ricky Steamboat and Terry Funk. AJ Styles has been a force to be reckoned with since entering WWE in 2016. AJ is as consistent a performer as you’ll find. The same can be said for the Nature Boy.

I see this matchup as a perfect blend of styles (no pun intended). It would be a back and forth matchup that would see AJ start out hot. Flair would eventually take the advantage of a high risk error by AJ. Flair would work the knee hard, nearly forcing AJ to give up. However, Styles would make a roaring comeback and push Flair to the brink with several near falls and a devastating Calf Crusher. Flair and Styles would then trade blows until the ref gets knocked down. Styles would then set up for the Styles Clash with Flair hitting the well timed low blow. The ref counts two and hits the three leaving the crowd in awe.

Both men are superior athletes. There might not be a better wrestler in the world other than AJ Styles but Flair being the dirtiest player in the game would make the difference leading to a win for the Nature Boy!

Winner: Ric Flair

Kezuchika Okada vs John Cena

Submitted by Smark to Death

Perhaps this is a match only those of us who watch New Japan Pro Wrestling and respect the dominance both of these competitors have shown during their careers. Recently, I have become a massive fan of NJPW and, of course, Kezuchika Okada.

Okada is incredibly dominate and has held the IWGP Heavyweight Championship four times with a current run of 600+ days. The man is such an incredible wrestler, he and Kenny Omega’s matches forced esteemed wrestling writer Dave Meltzer to give the matches more than 5 stars, including a 6 star rating. I know, it’s his own rating criteria, why does it matter? Well, the man is so talented he forced a wrestling reviewer with hundreds of matches rated to say the bouts were so great, they didn’t fit on his scale. Pretty outstanding stuff.

And of course, John Cena. Love him or hate him, he has carried the largest wrestling promotion on his back for over a decade. He is one of the only WWE wrestlers to be in a 5 star match per Dave Meltzer and has won the WWE championship 16 times, tied with Ric Flair. He is incredibly divisive, sure, but he is still the biggest star with the biggest reaction in the company.

This match would be all storytelling including vintage Okada with smug confidence thinking he could easily defeat Cena. We would get the patented John Cena comeback and multiple AA’s, but this would end with John Cena passing out to a cobra clutch with Okada securing the victory. Okada is younger and a more technical wrestler with a need for victory more so than John Cena at any point in his career.

Winner: Okada

Daniel Bryan vs Macho Man Randy Savage vs Kenny Omega vs Bret Hart

Submitted by 720 Wrestling

I was trying really hard to figure out where all three of these individuals would fit in on this card and then I was watching Wrestle Mania 31 and seeing Bryan backstage as Intercontintenal Champions of wrestling past showed up, it hit me. Daniel Bryan vs Bret Hart sounds incredible! They mentioned Macho Man, oh hell yeah — that also sounds incredible. All three together in the same ring at the same damn time, oh my goodness… and for the hell of it why dont we throw in the likes of Kenny Omega (yassss).

In this match we have four of the greatest pure wrestlers of all-time minus the likes of highly regarded snub Kurt Angle. Anything can happen in this fatal four way as of course their is no rules but don’t expect too many table spots or chair shots. These guys will all find a way to create magic in the ring in a match that will look as if they are fighting to the absolute death.

This match ends when Daniel Bryan hits running knees on Bret Hart and Kenny Omega as Savage tosses Bryan outside of the ring and covers one of the flying knee victims for the win.

Winner: Macho Man Randy Savage

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Great Muta

Submitted by Wrestler Weekly

Muta captivated American audiences in 1989 moving to the top of the card in the NWA. Muta’s strikes, aerial maneuvers, and devastating green mist were deadly.

If anyone can match strikes with Muta, it’s Shinsuke Nakamura. The King of Strong Style brings hard strikes and supreme confidence. Muta has great mystique while Shinsuke brings a tangible charisma.

This would be hard hitting and as stiff as they come. Both were hampered by questionable booking at times. If this match is in Japan, I give that to Muta 99 times out of 100, but on the grandest stage of them all at WrestleMania, I’m giving it to Shinsuke. He is a clutch performer and I believe he would deliver — especially given the calibre of his opponent here. It would take everything but the kitchen sink but The King of Strong Style edges out a win from The Great Muta cementing his own legacy.

Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura

Sting vs Undertaker

Submitted by 720 Wrestling

The match that has seemingly been talked about for years and years has already happened. Well, yes it did happen but this was before either man had become the icons they are known by today and that is why it has made the list.

Both Sting and Undertaker represent their incredible orgnaizations to the absolute fullest. They both present a dark, mysterious type of character that fans have been drawn to for the past twenty plus years. The in ring styles combined with each wrestlers career respective would make for one of the greatest matches of all-time and to top it off it would take place in Hell In A Cell.

This match would be bloody and dangerous as each of the two men try to destroy one another by any means necessary. But the Cell belongs to only one man and unfortunately for Sting, that man is the Undertaker.

Winner: Undertaker

The Snubs

So lets do it this way — who is the one opponent I would want for each, the Rock and Hulk Hogan. When it comes to Hogan it is easy, John Cena. It would basically be Wrestle Mania icon A-1 vs Wrestle Mania icon A-2. Cena and Hogan would be the ultimate good guy having, vitamin taking and wrestling god praising match up that WWE could have. With both guys in their absolute prime I think I would favor the likes of John Cena. Simply put, he is the better wrestler by leaps and bounds.

Kurt Angle is the other snub and if I had one match that I would like to see Kurt Angle in it would be Daniel Bryan.

A couple of questions to ponder:

Who would main event each day?

Which match would be the best from the jam packed weekend?

Who are some snubs you can think of?
